A tiny tabby kitten, soaked and trembling, was rescued from the top of a tall wooden bookshelf after floodwater filled an elementary school classroom.

In the video, muddy water covers the classroom floor. Books float past overturned desks and chairs, while rain streaks the large windows. On the highest shelf, the small brown, black and white kitten crouches low, its wet fur clinging to its body and its wide eyes fixed on the approaching rescuer.

Wading slowly through the water, the rescuer steadies one gloved hand on the bookshelf and gently extends the other toward the frightened animal. The kitten hesitates, lowers its ears slightly, and watches every movement. Then, with careful hands supporting its chest and body, the rescuer lifts it from the shelf.

Held securely against the rescuer’s chest, the kitten begins to calm. It blinks, adjusts its paws, and settles as the flooded classroom fades into the background.
