81-Year-Old Man Allegedly Tortured With Microwaved Syrup to Reveal Safe Combination — Attackers Marked His Chest With Threatening Message

An 81-year-old man allegedly endured hours of violence after being lured to a home in Elkton, Maryland, where investigators say two people plotted to rob him and obtain access to a safe at his Delaware residence. The alleged attack was so disturbing that the victim eventually escaped naked and injured, running to a nearby home to beg for help. Police say one suspect used heated syrup as a torture tactic to force the elderly man to reveal the safe’s combination.

According to the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, the victim had arranged to meet 31-year-old Taylor Storm Falcone at her residence on Wednesday, November 4. He reportedly believed he was going there to bring money for a child’s birthday. However, authorities say he did not know that 28-year-old Austin Michael Maniscalco would also be inside. Once the victim entered the home, Maniscalco allegedly became aggressive, tied him to a chair with a cord and refused to let him leave. The elderly man told investigators that he was repeatedly punched in the head and face and had a knife held against his throat.

The alleged assault then escalated. Police say Maniscalco removed the victim’s clothing while he remained restrained, heated syrup in a microwave and poured it over his body, causing multiple burns. Investigators say the purpose was to force the man to disclose the combination to a safe inside his Delaware home. After the victim finally provided the combination, Maniscalco allegedly wrote it across his forehead with a black marker. Authorities also reported an especially disturbing detail: an area on the victim’s chest had been marked to indicate where his heart would be carved out.

During the ordeal, the suspects allegedly took approximately $80, a gold chain, a gold Seiko watch, a gold bracelet and keys to three vehicles: a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette, a 2026 GMC Sierra and a 2016 Cadillac Escalade. Investigators believe the pair intended to use the safe combination to gain access to the victim’s home. However, authorities in New Castle County, Delaware, checked the property and found no indication that anyone had entered.

The victim’s opportunity to escape came when Maniscalco allegedly fell asleep. The 81-year-old managed to free himself and get outside, eventually reaching a nearby residence in a desperate attempt to find help. Deputies responding at around 8:30 a.m. found him naked and visibly injured. He was transported to a hospital for treatment and later released. Police subsequently returned to the Elkton home, where Maniscalco initially refused to surrender. A sheriff’s office tactical team arrived in an armored vehicle and breached the residence before he eventually agreed to turn himself in. Falcone was arrested after returning to the property. Investigators said they recovered the stolen belongings, along with the chair and cord allegedly used to restrain the victim.

Maniscalco faces charges including robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, theft, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment and conspiracy-related offenses. Falcone faces conspiracy charges connected to the alleged robbery, assault and theft. The two suspects’ reported custody and bail status differed between initial reports: Law&Crime said Falcone posted a $500 cash bond after a judge set bail at $5,000, while an ABC News report described both suspects as being held without bail. The case remains under investigation, and the allegations have not yet been proven in court. For the 81-year-old survivor, the ordeal ended with a hospital visit — but the investigation now centers on how the alleged plan was arranged and whether the suspects intended to enter his home after obtaining the safe combination.
