Six Children, Including a Baby, Found Running in the Middle of the Road While Their Mother Was at a Friend’s House, Police Say
A disturbing scene unfolded in Bellmead, Texas, after neighbors reportedly spotted six children outside without adult supervision — including a baby who was seen running dangerously close to moving traffic. Police responding to the call said they found multiple children crossing the roadway, raising immediate concerns about their safety.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local media, a neighbor contacted authorities after seeing four children playing in the street. The caller specifically reported that a baby had run in front of traffic. When officers arrived at approximately 4:23 p.m., they allegedly observed several children running across the road with no adult present to supervise them.
One of the children was reportedly a toddler wearing only a visibly dirty, sagging diaper. Investigators later identified the children’s mother as 33-year-old Amber Flemming. According to local reports, three of the children were hers, while the other three were her stepchildren. All six were under the age of 15.
Police said the children’s father was at work when the incident occurred. Flemming, meanwhile, was reportedly at a neighbor’s home rather than supervising the children. Officers who located her said the house allegedly smelled of marijuana and cigarette products. The available reports do not establish that the children had been exposed to either substance, but the circumstances became part of the investigation.
Flemming was arrested and charged with six counts of abandoning or endangering a child. She was booked into the McLennan County Jail, where she was initially held on a $12,000 bond. As of the November 6 report, she no longer appeared on the jail’s online inmate roster. Authorities had not publicly provided details of her next court date.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the dangers children can face when left without supervision, particularly near busy roads. A moment of inattention can put young children at risk before anyone has time to intervene. While the children were reportedly found before a traffic-related tragedy occurred, the case now centers on the allegations that six minors were left without an adult responsible for their safety.
