“The Lord’s Prayer” Heard in Final Moments Before Florida Learjet Crash That Killed 9 — Pilot Remembered as Devoted Father

A haunting recording from the final moments of a deadly Learjet crash in Florida has captured what appears to be a male voice reciting the Lord’s Prayer as the aircraft plunged toward the ground. In the background, a young co-pilot can be heard desperately warning that the plane is going to crash. The tragedy occurred on November 1, 2026, in Palm Beach County, claiming the lives of all nine people aboard. Among them was Captain Jeffrey Gregory, a 55-year-old pilot whose friends and church community are now remembering him as a devoted Christian, husband and father of three.

The aircraft, a Learjet 60 operated by Aurora Aviation, had departed Austin, Texas, bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Gregory was flying alongside 20-year-old co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras. According to air traffic control communications, the crew initially reported icing and moderate turbulence while cruising at approximately 35,000 feet. They requested permission to climb higher, but the situation deteriorated rapidly. The aircraft began losing altitude at an alarming rate, prompting the crew to declare an emergency. One transmission reported a descent of 10,000 feet per minute, followed by an overspeed warning and a reported descent of approximately 20,000 feet per minute.

As the emergency communications continued, the recording captured a male voice seemingly reciting part of the Lord’s Prayer, including the words, “Who art in heaven, hallowed be the name.” Meanwhile, Filgueiras could be heard shouting warnings and expressing fear that the aircraft was about to crash. She also appeared to call out to someone named Jeff, urging him to look outside the window. Friends of Gregory reportedly recognized the praying voice as his, and his church later shared a tribute remembering him as a faithful Christian. However, investigators have not officially confirmed the speaker’s identity through a recovered cockpit voice recorder. The widely circulated recording consists of air traffic control communications, not a verified recording from the aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder.

The Learjet ultimately crashed near Greenacres, Florida, close to a residential mobile-home community. The impact created a massive fireball and left a large crater near a roadway. All nine people aboard were killed, including Gregory and Filgueiras, Texas technology executive Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their two young children, Emma and Charlie, their nanny Anita Maria Cetina, and family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. The disaster devastated multiple families and forced nearby residents to evacuate while emergency crews secured the area and investigators began recovering wreckage.

For those who knew Gregory, the tragedy is about far more than the final recording. His longtime friend David Peters described him as diligent, dependable and deeply committed to aviation. Gregory had dreamed of becoming a pilot since childhood and worked hard to turn that ambition into a career. He also maintained a strong connection to Limerick Chapel in Pennsylvania, where he had grown up attending church. Following his death, the congregation remembered him with a message saying he had “gone home to be with the Lord.” Gregory leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, and their three children.

Meanwhile, federal investigators are working to determine what caused the aircraft to plunge from the sky. The National Transportation Safety Board has identified severe weather, icing and turbulence as important areas of investigation. Investigators also discovered pieces of the aircraft’s left elevator several miles from the crash site, evidence indicating that the plane broke apart before impact. However, they have not yet determined whether the loss of that component caused the emergency or occurred as a result of the aircraft’s rapid descent. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have emphasized that the final cause has not been established. For the families of the nine victims, the questions surrounding the crash remain painful, while the reported prayer in the final radio communications has become an especially emotional part of remembering those who never made it home.
