Woman, 47, Dies After Being Stabbed and Crashing Her Car While Desperately Trying to Reach Hospital

A 47-year-old woman in South Wales tragically died after suffering stab wounds and crashing her car while trying to drive herself to hospital. The victim, later identified as Eleanor Barnfield, was reportedly attacked at the Ger-y-Nant sheltered housing complex in Bridgend, where she worked for housing association Valleys to Coast.

According to reports, Eleanor called emergency services at around 11:25 a.m. on October 19, 2026, after being stabbed. However, the call reportedly disconnected, and attempts to call her back were unsuccessful.

Unable to reach emergency services, Eleanor attempted to drive herself to the Princess of Wales Hospital. During the journey, she collapsed at the wheel and crashed into a wall. When police and paramedics arrived, they discovered that her injuries were unrelated to the collision. She was rushed to hospital but sadly died from her wounds.

Police launched a major operation at the sheltered housing complex after the attack. Residents were evacuated as armed officers searched the area, where a suspect was reportedly barricaded inside a room. A 61-year-old man from Bridgend was arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in police custody, according to reports.

Eleanor’s family paid tribute to her as a loving and brave woman who meant everything to them. Her employer also expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing her as a valued colleague whose death had profoundly affected the team.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and have urged the public not to speculate while inquiries are ongoing.

Eleanor’s death has left her family, friends, and colleagues grieving. Her final attempt to reach medical help makes this case especially heartbreaking.
