Stranded on a Ticket Machine: Bodycam Shows Border Collie Guided to Safety in a Flooded Terminal

Bodycam footage recorded on September 22, 2024, at 06:54:28 shows a rescuer wading through a flooded transportation terminal, where a wet black-and-white Border Collie stands stranded on top of a tall stainless-steel ticket machine, floodwater covering the concourse around submerged waiting chairs and rain streaking the tall arched windows behind.

The video, filmed entirely from the rescuer’s chest-mounted bodycam, opens looking up at the dog where it waits on the wet metal top of the machine. Its thick black fur is soaked, a white blaze runs down its face, and its white chest and paws stand out against the steel. The dog looks nervous but attentive, its eyes fixed on the rescuer, who wears a dark navy-blue waterproof rescue jacket, black protective gloves and a red emergency flotation harness with safety straps and carabiners, both gloved hands raised slowly in front of him.

He does not reach straight for the dog. The rescuer edges closer through the water and holds both hands out, palms open, and the collie lowers its head and cautiously sniffs his glove. Only when the dog stays calm does one hand rise to stroke its shoulder, while the other slips a thin red rescue lead loosely around its neck without pulling. The dog stays balanced on top of the machine the whole time, leaning into the reassuring hand at its shoulder.

In the closing seconds the collie makes the move itself. Guided only by the loose lead and a supporting hand, it steps carefully down from the machine onto a stable raised platform directly beside it, front paws first, then its back paws, and stands there low and steady above the floodwater, tail giving a small wag, with the ticket machine and the flooded terminal still stretching out behind it.

Rescue workers remind the public never to wade into a flooded station or terminal themselves to reach a stranded animal: floodwater indoors can hide debris, live electrical hazards and sudden drops, and submerged platforms and stairs are treacherously slippery. Calling local emergency or animal rescue services — and keeping a safe distance until they arrive — gives animals like this Border Collie the best chance of a calm, careful rescue like the one captured here.
