IDF Says Airstrike Killed Final Hamas Member Linked to Shani Louk’s Abduction on October 7
An Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza has reportedly killed the last remaining member of a Hamas cell identified as having taken part in the abduction of Shani Louk during the October 7, 2023, attacks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel’s Shin Bet security agency announced that the target, identified as Tamer Mohammad Ibrahim Al-Zabaq, was killed in a strike in Jabalia on Monday, October 19, 2026. His death marks the end of the group’s known presence at large, according to the Israeli military.

Louk, a 22-year-old German-Israeli woman, was attending the Nova music festival near the Israeli community of Re’im when Hamas-led militants attacked southern Israel on October 7. Images that spread around the world showed her apparently lifeless body lying in the back of a pickup truck as armed men drove through Gaza. The disturbing footage became one of the most widely recognized images from the attack. Israeli authorities later confirmed that Louk had been killed, and her remains were recovered by Israeli forces in Gaza in May 2024 before being returned to her family for burial.
According to the IDF and Shin Bet, Al-Zabaq crossed into Israeli territory during the October 7 assault and participated in taking Louk’s body into Gaza. The military also alleged that he continued operating for Hamas during the war, including advancing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians and helping restore the group’s military capabilities. Israeli officials described these activities as violations of the ceasefire and said the airstrike was intended to eliminate the threat he posed. These claims about his subsequent activities were presented by Israeli security agencies and were not independently verified in the reports.
The Israeli military said Al-Zabaq was the final member of the five-person cell seen in the widely circulated images. Three other members had reportedly been killed in earlier operations, while another had been captured by Israeli forces. With Al-Zabaq’s death, the military said all five members had now either been killed or taken into custody. The announcement brought renewed attention to the events surrounding Louk’s abduction and the efforts to identify those involved.
The same day, the IDF and Shin Bet also announced a separate airstrike in Gaza City that killed Akram Bassam Shaaban Yassin, whom they identified as a senior official in Hamas’ General Security Mechanism. Israeli officials described the organization as a covert security unit responsible for protecting senior Hamas leaders, coordinating their movements and gathering intelligence. The military alleged that Yassin had also been involved in planning attacks and rebuilding Hamas capabilities. Palestinian medical and civil defense sources reported that several people were killed in strikes across Gaza, including Yassin and his wife, according to reports cited by The Times of Israel.
The announcement concerning Al-Zabaq does not change the loss suffered by Louk’s family, who endured months of uncertainty before her death was confirmed and her remains were returned home. Her story became emblematic of the October 7 attack, while the images of her body being transported through Gaza drew international attention to the fate of those killed and abducted that day. The latest Israeli announcement says the final member of the cell associated with that episode has now been killed, although the broader conflict and its consequences for civilians in Gaza and Israel continue.
