White Rabbit Lifted to Safety From a Wooden Crate in a Flooded Flower Shop

Bodycam footage recorded on 14 July 2024 at 09:36:50 shows a flood rescuer wading into a flower shop filled with muddy water to reach a small white rabbit stranded on a raised wooden crate.

The rabbit, its white fur soaked and clinging to its body, sat crouched on the crate surrounded by fallen greenery and flowers. Its long ears stood upright, its pink eyes stayed fixed on the rescuer, and its nose twitched as the water moved through the shop around it.

Pink roses, white lilies and sunflowers filled the shop. Metal flower buckets stood on raised crates, bouquets lay fallen in the floodwater, and petals drifted across the surface toward the rain-covered glass doors at the back of the shop.

The rescuer, wearing a dark green waterproof jacket, black waterproof gloves, black rescue pants and a safety harness with metal carabiners and red straps, approached slowly through the water. Only his arms and hands are visible in the chest-mounted bodycam footage.

He reached out with both hands, keeping his movements slow. One gloved hand rested gently against the rabbit’s back while the other slid beneath its chest. The rabbit stayed alert, its ears moving slightly, but it did not try to escape.

Supporting the rabbit beneath its chest and hindquarters, the rescuer lifted it carefully clear of the wet crate. Water droplets clung to its white fur as it was raised above the floodwater, its body fully supported in both hands.

The footage ends with the rabbit held low and secure in the rescuer’s cupped hands above the water, calmer now, with the flooded flower shop still visible around them — the crate it had waited on, the fallen flowers, and the muddy water that had covered the shop floor.

The rescue was recorded in a single continuous bodycam shot, with only the natural sounds of rain outside, gentle splashing, dripping water and rustling leaves.
