Stranded on the Checkout Belt: Bodycam Shows Golden Puppy Lifted From a Flooded Supermarket

Bodycam footage recorded on November 21, 2024, at 09:16:38 shows a rescuer wading through a flooded supermarket, where a small golden retriever puppy lies stranded on a raised checkout conveyor belt, muddy water covering the store floor, shopping baskets overturned and food packages drifting past the registers.
The video, filmed entirely from the rescuer’s chest-mounted bodycam, opens looking down at the puppy where it waits on the wet black conveyor. Its golden-brown fur is soaked flat, its floppy ears are heavy with water, and its dark eyes stay fixed on the rescuer with a frightened, trusting expression. The rescuer, wearing a dark navy waterproof emergency jacket with wide silver reflective stripes, thick black waterproof gloves and a rescue harness with yellow safety rope and metal carabiners, is already at the end of the checkout with both hands raised slowly in front of him.
He does not grab for the puppy. Both gloved hands come in low and slow over the belt and hold steady while the puppy lifts its head, blinks, and cautiously shifts its front paws forward on the slick surface. Only when it stays still do the hands slide gently underneath it, one supporting its chest and the other beneath its hindquarters, lifting it just a few centimeters clear of the belt while water drips from its soaked fur back onto the conveyor.
In the closing seconds the puppy is lowered gently onto a folded gray towel resting on the same conveyor belt, kept low and secure between the rescuer’s hands the whole time. It settles onto the dry cloth with its head resting down, one gloved hand still resting lightly at its shoulder, while behind it the flooded aisles, floating groceries and rain-streaked entrance windows stretch away under the fluorescent lights — still soaked, still trembling a little, but safe above the water at last.
Rescue workers remind the public never to wade into a flooded store or building themselves to reach a stranded animal: floodwater indoors can hide debris, broken glass and sudden drops, and it may be deeper and faster-moving than it looks. Calling local emergency or animal rescue services — and keeping a safe distance until they arrive — gives animals like this little golden puppy the best chance of a calm, careful rescue like the one captured here.
