Wife Asked Daughter to Bring Her 9mm Gun During Argument With Husband — Then Shot Him Three Times

A heated argument over a set of keys ended in a fatal shooting inside a Memphis home, with the couple’s children witnessing the horrifying events. Nearly two and a half years later, a Tennessee jury has found 47-year-old Elita Bean guilty of voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment in the death of her husband, 41-year-old Terrence Bean. The case took a disturbing turn when investigators learned that one of the couple’s daughters had allegedly been asked to bring her mother a 9mm handgun during the confrontation.

The incident happened on May 21, 2024, at the family’s home on Ardmore Street in Memphis. According to an affidavit cited by investigators, Elita and Terrence began arguing over keys. Their daughter told authorities that the disagreement escalated in the kitchen, where her mother allegedly grabbed a large knife and attempted to stab her father. The argument continued as the couple moved between the kitchen and bedroom before returning to the kitchen, where the confrontation intensified.

According to the daughter’s account, Elita asked her to get a gun. However, Terrence apparently took the firearm himself and handed it to his wife, reportedly telling her to shoot him. Elita then fired three shots, striking her husband. Police were called at approximately 10 p.m. When officers arrived, the children were outside and reportedly told them that their mother had shot their father. Inside, officers found Terrence lying face down on the kitchen floor with a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators recovered a 9mm handgun from the bedroom, along with three spent shell casings. A large knife was also found in a kitchen garbage can. According to court documents, Terrence had a gunshot wound near the lower left side of his chest, as well as two injuries to the middle of his chest that were consistent with knife wounds. He also had cuts on his right middle finger and left forearm. Elita initially told authorities that she and her husband had been struggling over the gun and that it went off. Investigators also noted that she appeared highly intoxicated when officers arrived.

On November 6, 2026, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office announced that a jury had convicted Elita Bean of voluntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment. The verdict means the jury found her guilty of a lesser homicide offense rather than murder. The case has left painful questions for the family, particularly because the couple’s children were present during the deadly confrontation and reportedly made the emergency calls. As of the latest report, a sentencing date had not yet been announced. The conviction brings a major development in the case, but the consequences of that night will continue to affect the children who witnessed the loss of their father.
