Stranded on the Hay Bales: Bodycam Shows Golden Puppy Lifted From a Flooded Barn

Bodycam footage recorded on October 18, 2024, at 15:42:19 shows a rescuer wading through muddy floodwater inside an old red wooden farm barn, where a small golden retriever puppy stands stranded on top of stacked hay bales, rain hammering the roof, farm buckets drifting past and the flooded fields visible through the wide-open barn doors.

The video, filmed entirely from the rescuer’s chest-mounted bodycam, opens looking across the brown water at the puppy where it waits on the wet hay. Its golden fur is soaked and tangled, mud clings to its paws, and it stands trembling on the bale with its head lowered, watching the rescuer’s hands approach. The rescuer, wearing a bright yellow waterproof flood-response jacket, thick black waterproof gloves, black rescue pants and a black harness with metal carabiners and yellow safety straps, moves forward cautiously through the water, one gloved hand settling onto the hay bale for balance as the hay compresses beneath it.

He does not grab for the puppy. When a gust of wind rattles the big wooden doors and the puppy flinches and crouches lower on the bale, he simply holds his hands still and lets it settle. Only then do both hands slide gently underneath it, one supporting its chest and the other beneath its lower body, lifting it just clear of the unstable hay while loose straw slips away and water drips from its soaked fur, its paws hanging as its full weight is supported.

In the closing seconds the puppy is held low and secure in both hands just above the hay bales, never raised high and never carried away from the spot. It blinks up toward the camera, calmer now, while the open doors, the flooded barn floor and the stacked bales remain in frame around them, rain still pounding outside — exhausted, muddy and frightened no longer, and safe above the floodwater at last.

Rescue workers remind the public never to wade into a flooded barn or outbuilding themselves to reach a stranded animal: floodwater on farms can hide machinery, sharp debris and sudden drops, and sodden hay bales and timber can shift or collapse without warning. Calling local emergency or animal rescue services — and keeping a safe distance until they arrive — gives animals like this little golden puppy the best chance of a calm, careful rescue like the one captured here.
